Screen Gems

My wife and I just conversed on our Verizon phones, she with the nicer one, and in the midst of our repartee, I called her “baby” followed by “and nobody puts Baby in a corner.” Which got me thinking about famous movie lines. Not very spiritual, I know. Sue me.

I quickly imagined a blog about such matters, thinking your comments might add to these memorable quotes off the top of my head:

“That’s enough about me. Let’s talk about you. What do you think of me?” (Bette Midler, Beaches)

“I’m the king of the world!” (Leonardo DiCaprio, Titanic)

“Bond. James Bond.” (Sean Connery, Dr. No)

“My momma always said ‘life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get.'” (Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump)

“Every man dies. Not every man really lives.” (Mel Gibson, Braveheart)

“Yo, Adrian!” (Sly Stallone, Rocky)

Care to add more?

Okay, this one’s totally unspiritual, but it never ceases to crack me up:

“But why is the rum gone?” – Jack Sparrow, Pirates of the Caribbean

(It’s been on my mind lately because I’m packing to move and the world’s best boxes happen to be from the liquor store. So I’ve got beer, gin, whiskey, vodka, wine, and RUM boxes all over my house!)

  2. Mandy Houk says:

    Here are some better ones:

“There’s no place like home.” -Dorothy, The Wizard of Oz

“Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya? Punk?” – Dirty Harry

“I’d rather have fifteen minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special.” – Shelby (Julia Roberts), Steel Magnolias

And from As Good as it Gets:

“You make me want to be a better man.” – Melvin (Jack Nicholson)

“That’s maybe the best compliment of my life.” – Carol (Helen Hunt)

“Well, maybe I overshot a little, because I was aiming at just enough to keep you from walking out.” – Melvin

  3. Jerald says:

“Fankly my dear, I don’t give a #@%&!” Clark Gable in Gone With The Wind.
Go ahead, make my day.” Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry.
“I fell in love him while you were sleeping.” Sandra Bullock in “While You Were Sleeping.”
“Why can’t a woman be more like a man.” Rex Harrison in “My Fair Lady.”
“No patty-fingers, if you please. The proprieties at all times.” Barry Fitzgerald in ‘The Quiet Man.’

  4. KaKa says:

You would have to post this when Karen Beard is gone.

Kala says, Do you ever think there is more to life than being really ridiculously good looking—Zoolander

    I’ll be back

  5. Larry says:

    “Use the force Luke” Starwars

  6. pasturescott says:

Mandy, anything Jack Sparrow says cracks me up…how about:

“I think we’ve all arrived at a very special place. Spiritually, ecumenically, grammatically.”

And the Shelby quote is one of my ALL-time favorites!

  7. pasturescott says:

    Jerald, naughty-naughty…and you a pastor…

(‘course, who can resist that endline from the mustachioed one?)

  8. pasturescott says:

KaKa, you think Karen would have been able to add one or two to this?

And Larry, which is the best of the Star Wars movies?

  9. Larry says:

OH, you know she could. Word on the street is that she has seen a few movies.

  10. pasturescott says:

Hey Larry, Alan and I would LOVE to take you to a movie soon…

  11. Alisa says:

Nanu! Nanu!- Mork from Ork 🙂

  12. pasturescott says:

Yes! I thought you were too young to know about Mork, Alisa!

Of course there is TV Land…

  13. KaKa says:

I loved that show!! You know you can get the DVD’s from the Library. My kids were not impressed

  14. pasturescott says:

‘Tis for a more sophisticated taste, I suppose…

  15. Mic says:

I watched a movie last night with Courtney called “Duplex” and it was really funny. The most memorable line (I believe I shall never forget it!) was when this old woman pivots around in her recliner and says to her would be assassin (who has a rather large knife in his hand!) “I knew they would send a professional sooner or later, but you’ve brought a knife to a gunfight!” and shoots him in the shoulder with a harpoon gun! It is directed by Danny DeVito so you can understand the humor.

  16. Caleb says:

“Take it all, give nothing back.” Capt. Jack Sparrow, Pirates of the Caribbean–Black Pearl

“Do you think God will forgive us for the things we’ve done?” John Creasy
“Me neither.” John Creasy from Man on Fire

“I think life’s too long and guys like you make it longer.” from 16 Blocks

“(expletive) Morpheous, not everyone believes what you believe!”
“My beliefs don’t require them to.” The Matrix Reloaded

  17. pasturescott says:

A “Man on Fire” man…I knew I liked you…and Matrix too; well, there’s just no end to your sensibilities, is there?
