Prayers (And Feet) For Son Jong

This was in my inbox today.

Let the Body of Christ feel the chains.

Let us rise up as one and pray.

May our pleadings before the Throne bring to ruin the purposes of the enemy.

Precious friends,

It is with anticipation and with some sadness that I share this story with you today. I am full of anticipation because I know our Lord does great things and can deliver anyone from a death sentence. He already has for those of us who follow Him. However, it breaks my heart that Christians all over the world are not living in freedom like we do here in the States. My prayer today is that some of the sadness I feel over this situation with our brother in North Korea, will subside as millions of you get involved and come to the defense of this precious brother.

The Voice of the Martyrs has set up a special webpage that will give you all of the information you need to get involved and to tell others how to get involved with helping the persecuted. But first, let me brief you on the situation.

Yesterday there was a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington D.C., concerning the situation with Son Jong Hoon’s brother. Senator Sam Brownback and representatives from VOM attended the Press Conference. The following is part of the press release from yesterday:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Son Jong Hoon, who is visiting the United States from his home in South Korea, today pleaded with the world to pressure North Korea to release his elder brother awaiting public execution for the crime of simply being a Christian. For more than a year, Son Jong Nam, former North Korean Army officer-turned-underground-evangelist, has been beaten, tortured and held in a bleak, North Korean death row basement jail in this capital city. He has been sentenced to public execution as an example to the North Korean people.
. . .

VOM was been joined in the initiative by Brownback, a noted supporter of human rights for North Korean refugees. Brownback sent letters last week, also signed by Senators Baucus (D-Mont.), Durbin (D-Ill.), Inhofe (R-Okla.) and Vitter (R-La.) asking U.S. Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice and U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to work to secure the release of the Christian prisoner

VOM is directing people go to its web site, www.prisoneralert.com, where they can compose a personal letter of support and encouragement to Son. The letter is to be mailed to the North Korean delegation to the United Nations, along with a cover letter asking the North Korean government to spare Son’s life, release him from prison immediately, report on his current status and deliver the personal letter to Son.

“We are asking for prayers for Mr. Son, but also that people around the world take action on his behalf,” said Todd Nettleton, director of media development for VOM. “Jesus said ministering to a prisoner was like ministering to Himself. Every letter and email can make a difference.”

This post stewed in my heart over night, and I asked the Lord, “They hated you first, and you said they would hate your followers as well. Should we expect anything different?”

As those who adhere to the words of our Lord, what should we pray concerning this matter?

No one wants to see their brothers or sisters die, but the question is ARE THEY TRULY “DYING” or is there something greater going on?

I praise the Lord for those who are delivered up in the name of Jesus Christ but I also pray that the gospel they preach would work in the hearts of the hearers, changing them from life “killers” to life givers.

I have many thoughts on this….one being “the Americanization of Christianity” and what that means for the rest of the world, and how that affects other cultures…and I don’t know of this brothers background, experience, faith, etc…..
BUT IF HE IS IMPRISONED FOR HIS FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST, AND THAT ALONE, then he is surely walking in the steps of True Brothers.

I pray I am not misunderstood here.

Not one bit by me, JT. You bring to the table the true thing, the blessed matter, of our high holy calling: all we endure in this life is for His glory, in His steps, to His end, and the knowing we will all reign with Him. And, what a privilege to show our ‘credentials’: the brand-marks of the Lord Jesus.

I pray for the Lord to finish His perfect work and to provide peace, security and joy in it and (I always pray this too) for there to be songs in the cell to the complete consternation of the enemy!

Thanks, kind brother, for doing it. Now, don’t you feel better?

Before I read the comments I was thinking much the same thing as JT said in his comment. I just finished listening to a sermon by David Sliker on the beatitudes and my next thought is, shouldn’t we also be praying for the North Koreans who are holding him prisoner? I’m sure our dear brother Nam is! If God changed their hearts, wouldn’t they free him? I am reminded of Paul as he said, “to live is Christ, to die is gain”. BTW, if I am ever given the grace to represent Christ in such a situation, please pray for me!!! It is so easy for me to talk like this sitting in my house with the A/C kickin’ etc. etc.

    No kiddin, Mic.

The “thought” I received today was, “You will not be offered up until you are ready.”

And the sense behind it was that, if that were my call, I would be ready to face it, with the joy of the Lord radiating from my heart.

This could not possibly be done in our power, but by Him who works in us “to will and to do”…

    Perfect love casts out fear.

You know, J, I think your idea of a forum is superb! (You mentioned this way back when…) That way, when the blogger owner needs to rest, the rest of us can continue lifting each other up and consoling one another. 😀

Three of my favorite bloggers have taken a leave of absence from this arena – and they have left me not a little bit bereft. Maybe God is saying it’s time to get away from the computer and spend that time with Him.

Of course, if the rapture has occured, I guess it’s time to head to the mountains! I wonder if God will give the same protection if we go to the beach? 8)

In a way, this kind of reminds me of “church life” (living within a n actual house church community).

There have been many times when a family would go away for the weekend or on vacation and they would leave their house “open” for meetings, etc.
    Really neat!

So “Green Pastures” is kind of like Scott’s families house, and he must be away tending to whatever business he needs to tend, and meanwhile, he leaves his house “open” for all the saints to come and share the Lord.

    Beautiful!
Thank you brother Scott, I promise not to make a mess.

But on a slightly more serious note, I get the sense that Brothers and Sisters are finding themselves with less time on their hands, like Scott, tending to things that need to be tended to (I’m speaking from a “sense” here with no knowledge of fact by the way).

Even for me, here at home, I’ve been finding myself being more involved with the kids, etc…than in times past.

I love the idea of a forum though, and will do some checking around to see how to get one going. Seriously.

One of the things that I’ve been hoping for clarity on is finding the balance between the church “local” (right here where I am), and the church “universal” ( the greater body of Christ which is so easily accsesable via the world wide web).

So far, the way it has been working out is that, on the net, I put my journal out there for all to read for the edification of others
(and it’s good for me too, to also express and, as you have pointed out, to be challenged by my own words),
but in the local realm, I’m a little more involved as hands and feet in more practical ways.

I do believe that I am leaning more and more “local” as time goes on though, not that I think I will ever disregard the larger Body.

There is just so much of the Lord and His work to do right here in our own neighborhoods, Marie…, house church community or not.

    But,..
    Yes!
I will check on the forum.

There are connections to be made in the Body….some members have “fallen asleep” as in “My leg has fallen asleep”, and they need the blood to begin recirculating to restore Life and feeling.

There is always Life in the Blood!
    Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Marie, you caught me. I have been busy with ballet classes of late…actually I had a post ready to submit last night, having poured my heart into it for a full three hours and when I hit ‘save’ and ‘send’ I guess it took a hankering to go underground and I lost it! Shed some tears on that one, you know…but I am here and rewriting it and should have it posted later. I love you and JT and all the faithful readers. I am humbled by those who would give their time to read up on me. I truly am.

    Love back to you,
    Scott

Pastor, it just dawned on me that your poor little avatar, suffering from nicety burnout, has found a place more suitable for her particular talents. She actually gets to beat people over the head with her reverse-chauvinistic attitude, and with the blessing of the blog owners!

You may really have to pay her big money to come back to this nice blog. I would offer to chip in, but looking at her gives me the heebie-geebies and I might have to bribe the other guys to keep her!

May the best avatar win!!!! 🙄
